Photographed with a Hasselblad SWC and Kodak Ektar 100 Medium Format Film

Storm At Your Back

August 28, 2021 in Color Film, Nudes, Photo Sessions

I went out with one of my favorite people to work with Floofie a few weeks back at a ridiculous morning hour. The lighting was fantastic. So fantastic in fact that I had one of those moments where I didn’t quite know what to do with the camera. I think anyone who does any sort of creative exercise can relate to that statement a little bit. The creative sparks start flying in your brain so fast that you just sort of short circuit and all the technical things you know about your craft go out the window.

I made this image using Kodak Ektar color negative film. I’ve long been a fan of Kodak Ektar though I realize that it is sometimes not the best stock when trying to get natural looking skin tones. Kodak Ektar tends to lean toward red tones which can make people look like they have a sunburn in very bright light. At 6am however the light was subdued enough to avoid this particular quality in the film. Instead what I am left with in this case is a nice color pallet that looks like some lovely water colors.

Total side note: I’ve always wanted to learn how to paint with water colors. Maybe someday…

I'm not going to say I miss the summer. But I sort of miss the summer. lol. I say this of course right before I put on three layers of clothes to bike to work before the sun comes out. Oh well, at least coffee tastes like the most amazing thing on ea
Inside the rocks and dunes and formations of the earth. Actually, more just trying to angle the frame to get the least amount of bird poop in the final image as humanly possible.

I'm back home after some wonderful travel time. Back to the grind today. I'm hoping to ease into regular life but I have a feeling it's going to feel more like a wrecking ball crashing into my brain.

I think I've officially hit that age when I can no longer keep up with the changing world. I honestly don't think this is a bad thing necessarily. If the world wants AI, and smart watches, and META glasses, it can have it. I'll just be doing my thing
This was one of those days that felt like summer before summer was the cool kid in the class.

Making photographs in blank spaces is always such a different mindset. Not necessarily bad, or good, or better, or worse, just different.

I can pull off a cowboy hat sometimes. I like to walk around in a flannel shirt and a ten gallon hat and a camera attached to my hip. All I'm missing is the horse. Evidently my cool factor only goes to 8 and not to 11.

I always find the lighting on the hottest days to be the most difficult to work with. A little bit of persistence always wins the day though, which seems to be my theme lately.

It was colder than we would have liked, and the light was dimmer than I expected, but with a little perseverance we managed to make it all work. Sometimes that is what you've got to do. If that wasn't the case, we probably wouldn't do it all.
