Plastic Snapshot

January 08, 2015 in Black and White Film, Nudes, Photo Sessions

It's been a long while since I've used my Holga in any serious capacity. I think at some point in 2015 I would like that to change. I've always enjoyed the whimsical nature of photographing portraits and nudes with a Holga.

This particular photo shoot has always been a stand out example for me. The model had such playful energy about her, standing naked in a field, jumping about like a five year old girl. There was just no way on earth I could get her to sit still long enough to measure light, focus, adjust exposures. So the Holga just became a natural fit - pointing and clicking away while she made one goofy face after another. The results became enduring, organic, fun to look at, and what I consider one of my most successful photo shoots ever.

Those who know me in real life are aware that I am a huge movie and film nerd. One of my early gateways into a cinematic world outside the Hollywood norms was of course David Lynch.

I don't think younger people quite understand what a treat it was
I'm really looking forward to fall. It's probably my favorite time of year to make color photographs and take advantage of the punchy and saturated quality of color negative film.

I'm waiting for the beep of the coffee maker at the moment, i.e. that glorious sound telling me my morning coffee is all ready to be poured in a mug and consumed before the sun comes up. Glory days I tell you, glory days...

Enjoying the nice natural light going on with this image. Not too bright and harsh, but pronounced enough to bring out the details and shapes in the frame on black and white film.

Walking around downtown Chicago in the sweltering heat. I'm really not used to the humidity during mid-west summers!

It was hot as blazes out when this image was taken and the shade and shadows of the forest were a incredible relief.

Sometimes working in a thick patch of trees like this can be a real challenge during the summer because the light can be patchy and

Walking through my neighborhood and admiring all the different trees and plants. I feel like I see something new every single time I take a journey to the park.

I need to make more Lumen Prints, especially now that it is summer and the foliage around here is getting brittle and falling to the ground.

I feel like I was disconnected from the world for a little bit. Did I miss anything? Not really it seems. Which I suppose isn't so terrible.

I really can't imagine two images that personify a good chunk of my life these days. Roaming about the mid-west, chasing the clouds, and listening to the wind.
