Self Portrait on Paper

May 17, 2015 in Black and White Film, Photo Sessions

I'm not sure how much I like this image but I figured I would post it anyway. Photograph of myself using some very expired direct positive black and white paper and an old Crown Graphic 4x5 camera. The results are really mushy and uneven but in some ways that makes a nice effect.

I'll probably play with this stuff a little more and try to get the contrast more to my liking. I'm not sure how much the scan does it justice either. But hey, whatever, it's fun to experiment a little which is a nice way to spend a Sunday.

It was hot as blazes out when this image was taken and the shade and shadows of the forest were a incredible relief.

I need to make more Lumen Prints, especially now that it is summer and the foliage around here is getting brittle and falling to the ground.

I feel like I was disconnected from the world for a little bit. Did I miss anything? Not really it seems. Which I suppose isn't so terrible.

I really can't imagine two images that personify a good chunk of my life these days. Roaming about the mid-west, chasing the clouds, and listening to the wind.

This is one of those images that should not have worked. It was incredibly hot out, and the light was far too harsh for my liking, but somehow we found a great little spot with some open shade and just a tiny little breeze.

I've been reconnecting with large format photography more and more, which has been quite challenging for me. It's kind of thrilling to fail, make adjustments, and then try again. It's infuriating at times too, which is all part of the fun.

I've been making little panoramic images lately walking around town. These are from an afternoon I was on my way to get a haircut. It's been a nice little exercise for my brain to fit shapes into a more cinematic frame.
